Ray and Dan Devine
Seen conferring on the sideline at a 1971 away game are Packers’ legendary linebacker Ray Nitschke and new head coach Dan Devine. The new coach got off to an auspicious start when he suffered a broken leg following a sideline collision in the season opener, a 42–40 loss to the New York Giants. Nitschke would play one more season for Green Bay before retiring in 1972. He was later inducted into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 1978.
