A New York Nightmare

2023 Season Previews

For many years, we’ve collected the annual season preview magazines, when they almost always had either Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers on the cover (at least of the midwest editions). There are now only two such magazines currently being published (excluding Fantasy Football editions), and we picked up this year’s versions. In his initial year as the Packers’ starter at QB, Jordan Love is not “worthy” of the cover spot, apparently. So, what do these publications have to say about the Green Bay Packers’ prospects in the coming campaign?

 Athlon Sports

There is no prediction for their 2023 record, but Athlon ranks our team in 5th position in the overall NFC power rankings going into the season. At the end of the regular season, they state that Green Bay will be seeded 3rd in the NFC, but will fall to Dallas in the Wild Card round. Their Super Bowl prediction has the Chiefs repeating as champions after beating the Seattle Seahawks.

Lindy’s Sports

The Packers aren’t predicted to do great things by the Lindy’s staff, as they are shown finishing third in the NFC North standings ahead of Chicago. Accordingly, they aren’t seen as a playoff team, and their version of the Super Bowl has San Francisco beating the Buffalo Bills.

The Offseason Tracker is Being Retired

The Packerville, U.S.A. Offseason Tracker has done its job, and is retiring until the season is over, when it will start up again. Hopefully, it has been helpful.

QBs First Year as Starters

Ten days ago, we posted an image of the upcoming 2023 Green Bay Packers Yearbook, featuring QB Jordan Love. Today, we’d like to show the first time that our two most recent starters made their first appearance on the yearbook’s cover. Above, QB Brett Favre was on the 1993 season yearbook, a year after he took over for injured QB Don Majkowski in the second game of the 1992 schedule (September 13th at Tampa Bay, a 31-3 loss). He started his first game at home on September 20, 1992, a thrilling last-minute victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-23.

QB Aaron Rodgers was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, and promptly took his spot as the backup behind the perennial starter, Brett Favre. While he did substitute for a banged-up Favre (or in clean-up time in lopsided victories) a few times, he only became the starter after Favre retired (then un-retired) after the 2007 season. But he did not make the yearbook cover that year, or the next. His first yearbook cover was for the 2010 season in which the Packers would somewhat surprisingly advance to the Super Bowl. As we all know, that produced the team’s 13th championship in Super Bowl XLV.

It’s Official.

It’s official. Supposedly, the Packers get a second round pick this year, a 1st round pick swap this year, a conditional 1st rounder in 2024. More as it develops.

It’s That Time of Year...

While the rest of the country thinks of spring, baseball, the NCAA tournament, and whatever else, those of use who are Packers season ticket holders make sure that we DO NOT miss the deadline for 2023 season ticket payments. They are due by March 31, but we paid on the 16th to be eligible for prizes. And, if you’re like us, you have two payments to make (both Green and Gold packages), so the amount paid is even larger. Ticket prices went up this year, as they do semi-regularly. When we first got our Gold Package tickets in 1991 (for games played in Milwaukee), it had taken prices 72 years to climb all the way to $29 each. Since 1991, they have climbed a much steeper monetary mountain — to $129 each (our seats are in the end zones for both packages). It is what it is... what are you going to do?
