2019 Training Camp — Practice 5

We’re continuing on with our photo galleries from Ray Nitschke Field in Green Bay, Wis. After a day off (from physical contact, at least) on Monday, the Packers were back at it on Tuesday morning at 10:15 a.m.

It was a much more pleasant day, weather-wise, than had been the case for the weekend practices. It was breezy and cooler with less humidity, and while some fans found it too cool to go without a jacket, the players had to really enjoy it.

The folks who came early have already snagged a seat. Other fans are waiting to watch the players arrive on the bikes. At this time, it’s relatively quiet and peaceful at the Packers’ practice field.

Pins in a map of the United States indicate where fans have come from to visit Green Bay and watch the Packers.

It’s on display at the mobile Visitors Center behind the Ray Nitschke Field bleachers.

The three usual suspects are out early each morning to work on punt returns — WR Trevor Davis (#11), WR Darrius Shepherd (#10), and CB Jaire Alexander (#23).

Working on onside kicks.

Tackling the large “donuts.”

Third-round draft pick (No. 75 overall) Jace Sternberger (#87) is trying to get by T David Bahktiari (#69). Good luck with that.

A whole bunch of wide receivers.

Just before this photo was taken, TE Jimmy Graham (#80) twisted his ankle. He was fine later.

If you’ll notice, it takes five men to conduct this drill where two QB’s pass in unison.

CB Kabion Ento (#48) picks off an “up for grabs” pass from QB Manny Wilkins (#18).

RB Corey Grant (#35) gets his turn with the ball.

QB Manny Wilkins (#18) fumbles the snap, but picks it up and completes the play.

WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling (#83) makes a reception despite coverage.

Sixth-round draft pick (No. 185 overall) CB Ka’dar Hollman (#29) receiving some assistance on the near sideline.

Mid-practice special teams work.

NT Kenny Clark (#97) also gets some attention from a Packers staff member.

K Sam Ficken (#7) gets a turn in practice.

The defense whoops it up on the near sideline. Coach Matt LaFleur pulled the No. 1 offense after one play in the final team period because of a turnover. CB Jaire Alexander (#23) forced a fumble by WR Davante Adams (#17), and LB Blake Martinez (#50) recovered it.

QB Tim Boyle (#8) stands in the pocket despite pressure.

Practice is over, and the defense celebrates a fine performance in today’s scrimmages.

2019 Training Camp — Practice 4

Sunday was another hot day at Ray Nitschke Field, but the regulars get up early and spend the day watching their Green Bay Packers anyway.

Taking an early morning walk around the area, we see the field as light starts coming over the horizon to the left.

Well, thank you.

This is the old Brown County Arena, which was opened in 1958. The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame was started here as a series of concourse exhibits in the late 1960s. The venue hosted presidents, basketball, hockey, indoor football, and music from Elvis Presley to Metallica.

This is what the Brown County Arena looks like now.

In its place will rise the new Brown County Expo Center, which will play a factor in the city’s hopes to host the NFL Draft in 2022 or 2023.
