In today’s 1962 “Salute to the Packers” installment, we first start out with a one-page feature on long time Packers’ defensive tackle Dave Hanner, as he’s presented with a new station wagon on “Hawg Hanner Day” in November 1961. Hanner played for Green Bay from 1952-1964, and followed that with a long line of assistant coaching positions with the team: Defensive Line Coach, 1965-1971; Defensive Coordinator, 1972-1974; Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator, 1975-1979; and Quality Control Coach, 1982. He then transferred into a scouting role until he retired in 1996. Hanner died on September 11, 2008.
Then we have a little feature on our quarterback of the decade, Bart Starr.
Here’s what they were saying about Starr back in 1962.
