The Back-up Who Soon Will Start
A game that meant nothing at least turned out to be exciting. QB Matt Flynn lit up the field and the record book, and all questions about him leaving via free agency are answered. He will be courted by many teams looking for a starting QB, and we wish him well. But today, he played like Rodgers and led the team to a thrilling comeback victory at home in wintry conditions.
WR Jordy Nelson had another big day with three TD’s, including a 58-yarder.
Old man? Pish posh. Old enough to score on a 35-yarder.
RB Ryan Grant only had 48 yards rushing, but scored on an 80-yard pass reception.
The defense had trouble containing WR Calvin Johnson (244 yards, one TD), and the pattern of giving up tons of yards continues. Does this team really want to give up 575 yards in the playoffs?
LB Clay Matthews spent the game on the bench, resting for the post-season…
… as did CB Charles Woodson.
We shall see if McCarthy’s plans for the health of his team affects them in two weeks.

Flynn ’s first and last game as a starter in Lambeau Field will be one we hope he recalls fondly when he is playing for a lesser organization somewhere in the A.F.C. Really, how can you go anywhere but down after spending four years in Green Bay?
