1947 Preseason Game Program
If you like the days of Curly Lambeau’s teams and the pre-Lombardi era, then your Christmas has come early this year. Here is the complete game program, or “Packer Pictorial Review,” from the August 23, 1947 preseason game between Lambeau’s Packers and the New York Giants. All of the ads have been included as well, because they give a great “big picture” of what it was like to live in Green Bay in the post-war 1940’s. In case you’re wondering, the Packers won this game, 17-14, in front of 15,000 fans at City Stadium. For the ’47 regular season, they finished 6-5-1 for Third Place in the Western Division.

Strolling through the internet in search of Packers historical materials, we came across this article on Hall of Fame DE Willie Davis, from the January 1978 issue of Orange County (Calif.) magazine. In it, Davis describes his time with legendary head coach Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers to an audience who probably didn’t know as much about him or that era as would someone living in Wisconsin.
