2025 Week 17 — Baltimore at Green Bay

Ravens and Packers enter Saturday matchup with uncertain QB situations

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Baltimore (7-8) at Green Bay (9-5-1)

Day/Time/TV: Saturday, 8 p.m. EST, Peacock
Series record: Packers lead 5-2
Last meeting: Packers beat Ravens 31-30 in Baltimore on Dec. 21, 2021.
Last week: Ravens lost 28-24 at home to New England on Sunday; Packers lost 22-16 in overtime at Chicago on Saturday.
Ravens offense: overall (18), rush (3), pass (27), scoring (14-T)
Ravens defense: overall (27), rush (13), pass (28), scoring (16)
Packers offense: overall (12), rush (14), pass (12), scoring (12)
Packers defense: overall (6), rush (10-T), pass (9), scoring (9)
Turnover differential: Ravens minus-4; Packers plus-2

This is what it’s come down to for the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore will miss the playoffs for just the second time in the last eight years unless it wins its final two games on the road and the Pittsburgh Steelers lose Sunday at Cleveland. The Ravens (7-8) likely will be playing the first of those games Saturday night at Green Bay (9-5-1) without two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was listed as doubtful with a back injury. “There isn’t any added pressure,” Ravens running back Derrick Henry said. “We’ve played football our entire lives. Let’s go win.”

Baltimore hardly expected to be in this position after going a combined 25-9 and winning the AFC North the last two seasons. If the Ravens win Saturday and the Steelers lose Sunday, their Jan. 4 matchup in Pittsburgh would determine the division champion. Tyler Huntley likely will start at quarterback for Baltimore after Jackson got hurt in the second quarter of a 28-24 loss to New England last week.

The Ravens do get a break in that they’re playing a Green Bay team that already is guaranteed a playoff spot and won’t have its starting quarterback. Green Bay has ruled out Jordan Love after a concussion sidelined him in the second quarter of a 22-16 overtime defeat at Chicago. Backup Malik Willis hurt his shoulder later in that game, leaving him questionable for this game. “It’s the situation, so you just prepare the best you can and try to lay out a great plan for whoever’s out there and go play,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said.

Green Bay clinched a playoff spot when the Detroit Lions lost 23-10 at Minnesota on Thursday, but the Packers still have incentive to improve their seeding. The Packers would grab the NFC North title if they win their final two games and Chicago loses its last two games. Both teams have been struggling to finish lately. Baltimore blew an 11-point, fourth-quarter lead against the Patriots. Green Bay led 23-14 in the third quarter of a 34-26 loss at Denver and followed that by squandering a 10-point advantage in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter in Chicago.

The collapse in Chicago caused Green Bay to lose control of its destiny in the NFC North race. “I think the vibes are still high,” Packers safety Xavier McKinney said. “The energy is still high. Obviously, we didn’t want to lose the game, but things happen. So, you’ve got to be able to put it to bed. You can’t dwell on it. We’ve still got an opportunity to do what we want to do, so I think that’s really the biggest thing.”

The Ravens also still have an opportunity to reach their goals, but they’re going to need some help. “Like you guys said, it’s a must-win game,’ Huntley said. “We’ve had a lot of games where the defense played great, and then we had games where the offense played great (or) special teams played great. Well, we just want the whole game to be everybody playing great.”

Packers quarterback Malik Willis says his throwing shoulder is feeling better and that he expects to be available for Saturday’s game against Baltimore if starter Jordan Love remains in the concussion protocol (UPDATE: Jordan Love will not play vs. the Ravens). “I try to take it one day at a time, but I would assume that I’m going to be ready,” Willis said Tuesday. The Packers held a walk-through on Tuesday, and Love and Willis were both limited participants. Willis took over for the injured Love in the second quarter of a 22-16 overtime loss at Chicago last weekend. He landed on his right shoulder while getting sacked on the final play of the fourth quarter. Willis stayed in the game and connected with Jayden Reed for a 31-yard completion in overtime, though the Packers eventually turned the ball over on downs. “The adrenaline’s pumping and, you know, we got to get in,” Willis said of playing through the injury. “We don’t have anybody else, so we’ve got to keep going. It was fun.”

The Packers may need Willis again on Saturday as they try to secure a playoff spot. The Packers (9-5-1) would lock up an NFC playoff berth if they win one of their final two games or the Detroit Lions lose one of their last two. The Lions visit Minnesota on Thursday. Baltimore has its own uncertain quarterback situation after a back bruise knocked two-time MVP Lamar Jackson out of the Ravens’ 28-24 loss to New England on Sunday night. The Ravens would be eliminated from the playoffs with a loss.

This matchup could mean plenty for Willis, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. The 2022 third-round pick out of Liberty has made the most of his limited opportunities with Green Bay. Willis played well against the Bears, going 9 of 11 for 121 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 44 yards on 10 carries. The 26-year-old has completed 76.5% of his passes with five touchdowns and no interceptions since the Packers acquired him from Tennessee before the 2024 season. Willis completed 53% of his passes with three interceptions and no touchdowns in two seasons with the Titans. Green Bay won both of Willis’ two starts last season, including a 30-14 victory at Tennessee. “I think he’s done a hell of a job, man,” coach Matt LaFleur said. “I think it’s all about his approach, how he came in here, how open he was to being coached. We were pretty hard on him and his footwork, and he’s done an outstanding job. I feel like the more he plays, the better he’s gotten. It’s great to have a guy like him you have so much confidence in.”

Willis says there’s a “night and day” difference in his comfort level with Green Bay’s offense compared with last season. “You’re just trying to learn the game plan each week and make sure you know what to do with the ball and how to get us lined up,” Willis said. “Now you can more focus on — you know why we’re calling these plays. Now you can focus more on the defense and how you want to attack them and just doing all the little things that help you be successful day in and day out.”

Last stand?

It’s clear if Baltimore misses the playoffs, there will be many fans demanding recriminations. Ravens coach John Harbaugh was asked about his own job security Monday and then defended his relationship with star quarterback Lamar Jackson on Wednesday. Offensive coordinator Todd Monken is again taking heat over Henry’s usage after the veteran running back didn’t touch the ball on the Ravens’ final two drives against the Patriots.

Letting it slip

The Ravens have lost 12 fumbles this season, which is tied for the most in the NFL. Henry’s fumble last weekend cost Baltimore some early momentum, and then a fumble by receiver Zay Flowers ended the team’s final drive. “The thing about Zay is that he works really, really hard at practice, and he focuses on those things,” Harbaugh said. “And yet, man, the ball gets punched out from a blind spot. So, we’ve just got to keep on working on catching it and putting it away and getting up field and protecting the football when you’re in traffic like that.”

Misfiring in red zone

Green Bay has driven inside the opponent’s 20-yard line nine times during its two-game skid, but the Packers have just one touchdown to show for it. The Packers didn’t reach the end zone on any of their five red-zone possessions against Chicago. The Packers had ranked second in the league red-zone touchdown efficiency before these last two games.

Missing Parsons

The Packers haven’t recorded a single sack over their last two games. That includes one game without Parsons and another game in which he tore his ACL in the third quarter.

Ravens player to watch

RB Derrick Henry has rushed for at least 94 yards in each of the past three games, although his lack of usage late in last weekend’s loss left Baltimore’s coaching staff under scrutiny. Even at age 31, Henry has surpassed 1,200 yards rushing this season and is averaging 5.0 yards per attempt.

Packers player to watch

WR Romeo Doubs got plenty of unwanted attention after the Packers’ overtime loss at Chicago because his inability to recover a onside kick put the Bears in position to score the tying touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter, but he had a productive game up until that point. Doubs caught five passes for 84 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown. His eagerness to make amends for his costly mistake on the onside kick could enable him to have a big performance Saturday.

Key matchup

Ravens pass protection vs. Packers pass rush. Green Bay hasn’t had a single sack during its two-game skid as the Packers struggle without Pro Bowl selection Micah Parsons, who is out for the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in a 34-26 loss at Denver on Dec. 14. The Packers must find a way to get in the backfield and bother the quarterback more often, whether it’s Lamar Jackson or Tyler Huntley taking the snaps for Baltimore.

What’s working

Green Bay controlled possession for nearly 39 minutes in a game that lasted just over 65 minutes. The Packers had a season-high 192 yards rushing, their sixth straight game with at least 115 yards on the ground. In their first full game without Parsons, the Packers kept the Bears out of the end zone for the first 59½minutes of the game.

What needs help

Green Bay reached the red zone on five separate occasions and failed to convert any of those opportunities into touchdowns. The Packers also blew a 10-point lead one week after squandering a nine-point, second-half advantage in a 34-26 loss at Denver. The Packers have been outscored 44-20 after halftime over their last two games. A team that has occasionally been prone to special teams breakdowns had its worst mistake of the season when Romeo Doubs was unable to hang on to an onside kick, setting the Bears up for their tying touchdown in the last minute of regulation. Without Parsons on the field, the Packers failed to produce a single sack for a second straight game.

Stock up

Willis. He again showed he’s one of the NFL’s most reliable backup quarterbacks. Willis, who went 2-0 as a starter last season, played the majority of this game and guided a ball-control offense that had the Packers in position to win for most of the night even as they struggled to turn scoring opportunities into touchdowns.

Stock down

While playing through a knee injury, Jacobs mustered just 48 yards from scrimmage (36 rushing, 12 receiving) and lost a fumble on first-and-goal from the 4 in the third quarter. He didn’t have another carry the rest of the night.

WR Matthew Golden didn’t catch a pass for the second time in three games. The rookie first-round pick had no receptions in either of Green Bay’s two game with the Bears.

CB Keisean Nixon had the coverage on Caleb Williams’ 46-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Moore in overtime. An apparent miscommunication between Nixon and CB Nate Hobbs allowed Jahdae Walker to get free for a tying 6-yard touchdown catch on a fourth-and-4 play with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Injuries

The Packers have a major lack of depth at tight end after John FitzPatrick injured his Achilles tendon in a game that Josh Whyle didn’t play due to a concussion. Green Bay already is missing Tucker Kraft, who was having a Pro Bowl-caliber season before tearing his ACL last month. RT Zach Tom and S Evan Williams didn’t play due to knee injuries.

Key number

4 for 48 — NFL teams had successfully converted just four of their 48 onside kick attempts this season, according to Sportradar, before the Bears managed to recover theirs during their comeback Saturday. Chicago’s recovery improved the success rate for the season from 8.3% to 10.2%.

Key injuries

Ravens: Jackson (back) did not practice this week and was listed as doubtful for the game. CB Chidobe Awuzie (foot), G Andrew Vorhees (foot) and RB Keaton Mitchell (calf) were full participants Thursday.

Packers: Love won’t play because of a concussion that knocked him out of the Bears game in the second quarter. QB Malik Willis (shoulder/illness) is questionable. G Aaron Banks (neck/illness), CB/WR Bo Melton (illness), C Sean Rhyan (knee/illness), OT Zach Tom (back/knee), WR Christian Watson (shoulder/illness), S Evan Williams (knee) and WR Savion Williams (foot/illness) also are questionable. LB Kristian Welch (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday’s game.

Series notes

The Ravens won 23-0 in 2017 when they last played at Lambeau Field, but they’ve lost in their other three visits to Green Bay. Brett Hundley threw three interceptions and the Packers had five overall turnovers in that 2017 game. When the Ravens and Packers faced off in 2021, Huntley started for Baltimore and threw two touchdown passes while running for two more scores in the Ravens’ one-point loss. That game was decided by a missed 2-point conversion in the final minute.

Stats and stuff

Baltimore would be eliminated from the playoff race with a loss this weekend. In order to make the postseason, the Ravens need to win their last two games and have Pittsburgh lose to Cleveland this weekend… The Ravens have won four straight road games, and they’ve won 15 of their past 16 on the road against NFC teams… Baltimore has a league-high 20 rushes of at least 20 yards. Buffalo and Miami are second with 15… Baltimore’s Jordan Stout is No. 1 in the NFL in net punting average at 44.9 yards… Henry needs 64 yards rushing to pass Tony Dorsett (12,739) for 10th on the NFL’s career list. He needs two rushing TDs to tie Adrian Peterson (120) for fourth… Chicago and Green Bay are the only teams Jackson hasn’t played against — aside from the Ravens, obviously. The only time Baltimore has faced the Packers since Jackson was drafted was in 2021… Zay Flowers of the Ravens needs 40 yards receiving to reach 3,000… Baltimore went 1-2 without Jackson earlier this season, with Huntley beating the Bears in Week 8… Green Bay clinched a playoff berth when Detroit lost 23-10 at Minnesota on Thursday. The Packers still could win the NFC North if they win their last two games and Chicago loses its last two games… Parsons was Green Bay’s lone Pro Bowl selection, meaning the Packers don’t have any healthy players who earned that honor this season… The Packers have scored just one touchdown out of nine trips to the red zone during their two-game skid. Green Bay was ranked second in red zone touchdown percentage before this slide… Over their past two games, the Packers have been outscored 42-20 after halftime… The Packers have allowed no more than 21 points in each of their seven home games. This is the first time since 1996 that Green Bay has allowed 21 points or fewer in each of its first seven home games… Packers RB Josh Jacobs has 13 touchdown runs this season to match Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs for second in the league. Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor has 17… Packers DL Rashan Gary had 7½ sacks in his first seven games of the season, but he has none in his past eight… Evan Williams and Packers LB Isaiah McDuffie are the only pair of teammates in the NFL to have at least 65 tackles on defense and 10 on special teams.

2025 Week 16 — Green Bay at Chicago

Bears host Packers in rematch with NFC North lead on the line

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Green Bay (9-4-1) at Chicago (10-4)

Day/Time/TV: Saturday, 8:20 p.m. EST, Fox.
Series record: Packers lead 109-96-6.
Last meeting: Packers beat Bears 28-21 at Green Bay on Dec. 7.
Last week: Packers lost at Denver 34-26; Bears beat Cleveland 31-3.
Packers offense: overall (13), rush (18), pass (12), scoring (10)
Packers defense: overall (6), rush (8), pass (8), scoring (8)
Bears offense: overall (5), rush (2), pass (17), scoring (9)
Bears defense: overall (24), overall (23), pass (18), scoring (21)
Turnover differential: Packers plus-3; Bears plus-20.

The Chicago Bears were sitting atop the NFC with five straight wins and nine in the previous 10 games going into their most recent meeting with the Green Bay Packers. They came up short when Caleb Williams got intercepted in the end zone. They won’t have to wait long for the rematch.

Chicago and Green Bay meet for the second time in three weeks, this time at Soldier Field on Saturday night with first place in the NFC North on the line and Packers star pass rusher Micah Parsons out with a season-ending knee injury. Both teams have a chance to clinch a playoff spot. “It’s another game,” Williams said. “Go out here and do my job, play well. Start fast, get the energy going for the team and we’ve got a real shot to go win the game.” Williams made it clear after the Bears’ 31-3 romp over Cleveland last week that he was looking forward to the rematch with the Packers. It’s not hard to see why. The Bears (10-4) were threatening to tie or take the lead, only to come away with a 28-21 loss at Lambeau Field when Williams got intercepted in the end zone by Keisean Nixon with 22 seconds remaining on a badly underthrown pass to Cole Kmet. The loss knocked Chicago from first to seventh in the NFC and into second place in the division behind Green Bay.

Chicago bounced back in a big way against Cleveland and regained the North lead with the Packers falling at Denver. Even worse for Green Bay (9-4-1), Parsons tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in the third quarter, a massive blow for a team that came into the season with Super Bowl hopes after acquiring the two-time All-Pro from Dallas just before the opener. “Just understanding what’s in front of us, understanding that we’ve still got the pen in our hand,” Packers defensive end Rashan Gary said. “We can still write our story.”

With or without Parsons, Bears coach Ben Johnson sees a difficult task. “It’s a really good football team and a really good defense,” he said. “I know you kind of lock in on one player, because he does garner a lot of your attention when you go against that defense, and yet, they have some high-caliber players throughout, on the defensive line, the linebacking core and on the back end. Just because one player goes down, that doesn’t mean that this is going to change a whole lot for them.”

Packers player to watch

DL Rashan Gary. The Packers need one of their other pass rushers to step up now that Micah Parsons, who had 12½ sacks, is out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Gary is the most proven of the candidates, though he hasn’t played particularly well lately. After recording 7½ sacks in Green Bay’s first seven games of the season, he doesn’t have any in the Packers’ last seven contests. He has a sack in two of his last three games against the Bears.

Bears player to watch

QB Caleb Williams. Williams made it clear after last week’s win that he was looking forward to the rematch with the Packers. Who could blame him? The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner had a rough time at Lambeau Field and it wasn’t just the ending, with an interception in the end zone by Keisean Nixon with 22 seconds remaining on a badly underthrown pass to Cole Kmet. Williams threw for just 186 yards and was 19 of 35 in his sixth straight game completing fewer than 60% of his passes. That streak ended against Cleveland, when he threw two touchdown passes and finished 17 of 28 for 242 yards.

Key matchup

Bears offensive line vs. Packers defensive line. Though Parsons didn’t have a sack in the game at Lambeau Field, he was consistently in Williams’ face. With Parsons out, Williams should have more time to let plays develop behind one of the NFL’s most effective lines.

Key injuries

Packers: Parsons wasn’t the only notable Packers player to get injured against Denver. Other players to exit that game included WR Christian Watson (chest/shoulder), RT Zach Tom (back/knee), S Evan Williams (knee) and TE Josh Whyle (concussion). RB Josh Jacobs re-injured his knee in that game, but played the rest of the way. While Parsons’ season is over, the status for the rest of those players is uncertain for Saturday.

Bears: WR Rome Odunze will miss his third straight game due to a lingering foot injury after being ruled out on Thursday. He was a late scratch against Cleveland after aggravating it in warmups… WR Luther Burden (ankle) is also out. He was hurt against Cleveland… LB Tremaine Edmunds (groin), who has missed the past four games, was a full participant in practice on Thursday and is listed as questionable after the Bears opened a 21-day practice window this week… RB D’Andre Swift (groin) was added to the injury list on Wednesday, when he was limited in practice, and is questionable.

Needing more from Gary

Parsons’ injury means the Packers will need all their healthy pass rushers to raise their games. Perhaps nobody is more equipped to do that than Rashan Gary, who has 46½ career sacks. It’s been an up-and-down season for Gary, who had 7½ sacks in Green Bay’s first seven games but none in the seven games since. “I’ve just got to be myself,” Gary said. “You know, when guys are thinking that they need to do more than what they’ve been doing, you start to strain, start to try to find plays that’s not there.”

Playoff scenarios

Chicago and Green Bay can clinch playoff spots with a win plus a loss or tie by Detroit against Pittsburgh. The two teams also would get in with a tie if the Lions lose. Green Bay is looking to reach the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years under coach Matt LaFleur, while Chicago is trying to make it for the first time since 2020. The Bears have just three trips to the postseason since the 2006 Super Bowl season.

Packers’ injury issues

Parsons isn’t the only notable Packers player who could be missing for Saturday’s game. Injuries knocked out wide receiver Christian Watson (chest/shoulder), safety Evan Williams (knee) and right tackle Zach Tom (back/knee) from the Packers’ loss at Denver. Running back Josh Jacobs said he reinjured his knee early in that game, though he continued to play and scored two touchdowns. The status for each of those players remains uncertain. “Definitely, it sucks to see guys go down that are key points for this team,” Williams said. “But it’s also an opportunity for more opportunities for other people. And that’s pretty cool to see, to see other people get their shot, and to get to see what they get to do with their time on the field.”

Lopsided rivalry

Though the Bears have a chance to add to their division lead, wins over the Packers are rare for them. Green Bay has dominated the NFL’s longest-running rivalry in recent decades, going 30-6 against Chicago since the start of the 2008 season. That includes the 2010 team winning the NFC championship game at Soldier Field en route to capturing the Super Bowl title. The Packers won 11 straight against the Bears before losing last year’s finale at Lambeau Field. Green Bay has won six in a row in Chicago.

Home run

The Bears have won five straight at Soldier Field since a season-opening loss to Minnesota. It’s their best home winning streak since a six-game run in 2005.

Series notes

The Packers are 30-6 against the Bears counting the playoffs since the start of the 2008 season and had won 11 straight in the NFL’s longest-running rivalry before a loss at Lambeau Field in last year’s finale… Green Bay has won six in a row at Soldier Field… This will be the first time the teams meet twice within a 14-day span since 1985… Packers QB Jordan Love has nine touchdown passes and only two interceptions in five career games against the Bears.

Stats and stuff

Chicago and Green Bay can clinch playoff spots with a win, plus a loss or tie by Detroit against Pittsburgh. The Bears and Packers would also get in with a tie if the Lions lose… Green Bay is looking to reach the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years under coach Matt LaFleur, while Chicago is trying to make it for the first time since 2020… The Packers are 4-0 against the NFC North and are one of only two teams unbeaten against their division. The Los Angeles Chargers are 5-0 against the AFC West… LaFleur’s 76 career wins match Paul Brown for the second-highest total by any coach in his first seven NFL seasons. George Seifert holds the record with 86 wins over that stretch… The Packers are 24-12-1 in prime-time games during LaFleur’s tenure… The Packers are 4-0 against NFC North opponents this season. The only other NFL team that’s undefeated in divisional games is the Los Angeles Chargers… Jacobs has 13 touchdown runs, putting him in a tie for second in the league with Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs. Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor has 16 touchdown runs. Jacobs also had his first touchdown catch of the season Sunday… The Bears won five straight games and nine of 10 before the loss at Lambeau two weeks ago. They moved back into the NFC North lead with the win over Cleveland and Green Bay’s loss to Denver… Chicago has won five in a row at Soldier Field since a season-opening loss to Minnesota. It’s the team’s best home win streak since a six-game run in 2005… The Bears picked off Shedeur Sanders three times last week and extended their league-leading totals in INTs (21), takeaways (30) and turnover differential (plus-20)… Chicago has takeaways in seven straight games, the longest active streak in the NFL… The Bears have five wins after trailing in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter… Williams has a franchise-record five fourth-quarter comeback wins and is tied with Denver’s Bo Nix for the league lead.

2025 Week 15 — Green Bay at Denver

Packers head to Denver looking to end the Broncos’ 10-game winning streak

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Green Bay (9-3-1) at Denver (11-2)

Day / Time / TV: Sunday, 4:05 p.m. EST, CBS.

Series record: Broncos lead 8-7-1.

Last meeting: Broncos beat Packers 19-17 at Empower Field at Mile High on Oct. 22, 2023.

Last week: Packers beat Bears 28-21; Broncos beat Raiders 24-17.

Packers offense: overall (13), rush (19), pass (12), scoring (10).

Packers defense: overall (5), rush (9), pass (7), scoring (6).

Broncos offense: overall (10), rush (14), pass (13), scoring (14).

Broncos defense: overall (3), rush (2), pass (10), scoring (4).

Turnover differential: Packers plus-4; Broncos minus-3.

For the first time in a decade, Denver Broncos (11-2) stand atop the AFC playoff race heading into the holidays. They’re the league’s only unbeaten team at home. They’ve won 10 consecutive games and they’ve saddled their last 11 visitors with a loss going back 14 months. And they are 2½-point underdogs at home to the Green Bay Packers (9-3-1) on Sunday, according to BetMGM Sportsbook.

It’s the NFL’s Week 15 marquee matchup, a tussle featuring Micah Parsons and Nik Bonitto, Jordan Love and Bo Nix, and pitting teams with obdurate defenses and opportunistic offenses that could very well serve as a Super Bowl appetizer. Oddsmakers, though, have joined the legions of NFL fans who view the Broncos’ longest winning streak in the post-Peyton Manning era with equal doses of criticism and skepticism. “I love it. It fuels me, honestly,” Bonitto said. “I like when people doubt us. They can stay on that side. We’ll go out and prove what we’ve got to prove.”

Just like they’ve been doing ever since their last-second loss at the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3, which followed a walk-off loss at Indianapolis. Since then, the Broncos have set an NFL record with nine consecutive comebacks, a streak that ended last week with a comfortable win at Las Vegas, and tied another mark with four straight wins by a field goal or less. “Personally, I couldn’t care less,” All-Pro kick returner Marvin Mims Jr. said. “But I mean some guys feel disrespected by it.” Bo Nix isn’t among those who feel offended by the national suspicion of the Broncos’ championship bona fides — or those who install them as home underdogs. “My mom thinks we’ll win,” the Broncos’ second-year quarterback said with a laugh. “So that’s all that matters.”

Watson’s emergence

Packers wide receiver Christian Watson didn’t start playing until Oct. 26 as he returned from a torn ACL, but the 2022 second-round pick still could end up having his best season. Watson has scored five touchdowns, all in his last four games. He has 25 catches for 452 yards in seven games. The TD total is his highest since his rookie season, when he had nine. “He’s making plays, it feels like, every time the ball comes his way,” Love said. “I think he keeps elevating and getting better and better.”

Packers facing a streaking team

According to Elias Sports Bureau, this marks the second straight year — and the fourth time ever — that the Packers have faced a team that has won at least 10 straight games with all the victories in the same season. Last season, the Packers lost 34-31 at Detroit for the Lions’ 11th straight victory. The Packers won their other two times in this situation. They beat Detroit 3-0 on Nov. 25, 1934, and they defeated Seattle 23-17 on Jan. 1, 2006. The trip to Denver is sandwiched between two games against the rival Chicago Bears. The Packers snapped Chicago’s five-game winning streak with a 28-21 victory at Lambeau Field on Sunday. The Packers face the Bears again on Dec. 20 in Chicago. “What a great challenge,” coach Matt LaFleur said. “But also, I think there’s great opportunity that goes with that.” The Broncos also have a challenging stretch run with visits from the Jaguars and Chargers, both 9-4, sandwiched around a Christmas night game at Kansas City, where the Broncos haven’t won since 2015.

Premier pass rushers

Sunday’s game features two of the NFL’s most prolific pass rushers in Green Bay’s Parsons and Denver’s Bonitto. They each have 12½ sacks this season, putting them in a tie for third in the league. Since the NFL started officially tracking sacks in 1982, Parsons is the first player to have at least 12 in each of his first five seasons. Bonitto could join Simon Fletcher as the only Broncos ever to have at least 13½ sacks in back-to-back seasons.

Strength in numbers

It’s not just Bonitto the Packers are concerned about. The Broncos lead the league with 55 sacks, putting them on pace for 72, which would tie the NFL record set by the 1984 Bears. “I think they have a really solid group all around,” Love said. “It’s not just one guy that you can finger-point out, but all around that defense and especially that D-line, you look at it and they got playmakers and guys who are making plays and winning their 1-on-1 matchups. It’s a little bit different than a team that maybe only has one solid edge rusher that you make sure you get chips and lockdown that side.” And don’t forget Denver’s stout secondary, led by reigning NFL defensive player of the year Pat Surtain II. “There’s sometimes you see on film when he’s breaking on things before the receiver’s even breaking,” Love said. “I think it just goes into his film study, his knowledge of the game and his confidence in himself. I think he does a lot of things at a very high level.”

Packers player to watch

QB Jordan Love. This is the time of the season when Love typically heats up and it’s happening again this year. Love has thrown seven touchdown passes with only one interception over his last two games. Love finally has two of his top wideouts — Christian Watson and Jayden Reed — healthy at the same time. That should enable Love to continue thriving late in the season but he’s not faced a pass rush like this one.

Broncos player to watch

QB Bo Nix. In his second season, Nix seems to be hitting his stride down the stretch just as he did in his rookie season last year before Jayden Daniels ran away with Rookie of the Year honors. Nix has fixed his footwork issues with three straight solid games in that regard. Like his counterpart with the Packers, Nix will have to deal with an excellent pass rush that could disrupt his rhythm and the progress he’s made of late.
