Packers player to watch

Since returning from a one-game suspension that followed his absence from two practices, WR Romeo Doubs has emerged as one of Jordan Love’s most reliable options. Doubs scored two touchdowns in a 34-13 victory over Arizona and followed that up by having eight catches for 94 yards against the Texans.

Jaguars player to watch

Tank Bigsby had a career-high 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns against New England last week and is tied for second in the NFL at 6.2 yards a carry. He trails Baltimore’s Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson. Even if he returns to a backup role, the Jaguars plan to get him plenty of touches moving forward.

Key matchup

Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. versus one of the NFL’s best secondaries. Thomas leads all rookies with 513 yards receiving and already has emerged as one of the most explosive deep threats in team history. The first-round pick from LSU has four receptions longer than 30 yards, including three that gained 58, 66 and 85. The Packers have the secondary to slow him down, beginning with veteran CB Jaire Alexander and including the league’s top safety tandem, Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams.

Key injuries

Packers: DL Devonte Wyatt (ankle) has missed Green Bay’s past three games but practiced on a limited basis this week. LB Quay Walker is working his way through the NFL’s concussion protocol… Jaguars: LB Foye Oluokun (foot), who led the NFL in solo tackles the past two seasons, is expected to be activated off injured reserve. S Andrew Wingard (knee) might be another week away. RB Travis Etienne (hamstring) could return after missing most of the past two games. LT Cam Robinson (concussion) is his working his way through league protocols.

Series notes

Neither team has topped 28 points in their previous seven meetings… The Packers have won three in a row in the series, with the past two decided by four points… The Jaguars have one win against Green Bay in Jacksonville, in 2008. The Jags sealed that 20-16 victory by intercepting Aaron Rodgers in the final minute.

Stats and stuff

Love has thrown multiple TD passes in nine straight games, the third-longest streak in Packers history. Aaron Rodgers threw multiple TD passes in 13 consecutive games in 2011, and Brett Favre did it in 12 straight in 1994-95… Although he missed two games with a knee injury, Love has thrown 15 TD passes this season, which matches Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson for the second most in the league. Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield has 18. Love also has eight interceptions to match Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and Las Vegas’ Gardner Minshew for the league’s most… The previous time the Packers played in Jacksonville, they lost 38-3 to the New Orleans Saints in their 2021 season opener. The game was moved to Jacksonville because of Hurricane Ida… Packers K Brandon McManus, who played for the Jaguars last season, joined his new team last week and made a game-winning, 45-yard field goal as time expired… The Packers have an NFL-leading 17 takeaways. McKinney intercepted a pass in each of Green Bay’s first five games. McKinney’s six total takeaways — he also has a fumble recovery — are tops in the league… Packers RB Josh Jacobs has 540 yards rushing to rank fourth in the league… Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence has two TD passes in three of his past four games… Tank Bigsby is one of three RBs — along with Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry — with 100-plus yards and two rushing TDs this season… TE Evan Engram has at least four receptions in 11 consecutive home games… DE Josh Hines-Allen has a sacks in three straight home games… LB Devin Lloyd led the team with season-high 11 tackles, including a sack, last week but could be the odd man out when Oloukun returns. That’s because second-year pro Ventrell Miller has played so well during Oloukun’s absence.

Texans player to watch

DE Will Anderson Jr. had his best game of the season last week against the Patriots to earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Last year’s AP Defensive Rookie of the Year had eight tackles, three sacks and four tackles for losses — all career highs. Anderson also deflected a pass that was intercepted in the fourth quarter Sunday. He has 12½ sacks through his first 21 games which ranks second in franchise history in that span behind J.J. Watt, who had 13 in 2011.

Packers player to watch

QB Jordan Love has thrown 12 touchdown passes in his four starts this season, and he has thrown for four scores in each of his past two home games. Although he’s thrown six interceptions already this year, he was picked off only once against the Cardinals, and that came when intended receiver Bo Melton slipped on a route.

Key matchup

Texans passing game vs. Packers secondary. C.J. Stroud threw touchdown passes to three different players (Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell and Joe Mixon) against New England. Diggs’ arrival this season adds to the array of playmakers Stroud has alongside him. He’s going to be matching up against a ball-hawking secondary that has picked off nine passes this season. Green Bay’s Xavier McKinney had an interception in each of the Packers’ first five games.

Key injuries

Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair is likely to be out against Green Bay after injuring his knee last week… Texans LT Laremy Tunsil aggravated an ankle injury he has been dealing with for a couple of weeks against the Patriots but should play Sunday… Texans LB Henry To’oTo’o is in the concussion protocol after taking a hit to the head against New England… Texans CB Kamari Lassiter is expected to miss a second straight game with a shoulder injury… Packers DL Devonte Wyatt (ankle) has missed two games and wasn’t practicing early this week… Packers LG Elgton Jenkins (knee) and DL Colby Wooden (knee) didn’t practice Wednesday… Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks (shoulder) left the Cardinals game but was practicing on a limited basis Wednesday.

Saturday Injury Report

Packers

Out: DT Devonte Wyatt (ankle)

Series notes

The Packers have won their past three meetings with the Texans and have averaged 32.7 points in those games. That streak started when Aaron Rodgers tied a franchise single-game record by throwing six touchdown passes — three to Jordy Nelson — in a 42-24 victory in 2012… The Texans’ lone victory over the Packers was a 24-21 decision at Lambeau Field in 2008, with Kris Brown making a 40-yard field goal as time expired.

Stats and stuff

The Texans need a victory for their first four-game winning streak since reeling off nine straight wins in 2018… Texans RB Joe Mixon had 102 yards rushing with a scoring run and a TD reception against New England in his return after missing three games with an ankle injury… Texans RB Dameon Pierce had a season-best 76 yards rushing with a touchdown last week after missing four games with a hamstring injury… Diggs had six receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Patriots for his fourth straight game with at least 65 yards receiving. He had 108 yards receiving and a touchdown in his most recent game against Green Bay in 2022 with Buffalo. He has nine TD receptions in 10 games against the Packers… Texans TE Dalton Schultz had a touchdown reception in his previous game against Green Bay in 2022 with Dallas… Texans DE Danielle Hunter had a sack and his first forced fumble of the season against the Patriots. He forced two fumbles and had a sack in his previous game at Green Bay in 2023 with Minnesota… Texans S Calen Bullock had an interception and his first career fumble recovery against New England. He’s the only rookie with two interceptions this season… The Packers are 10-2 against AFC teams at home during Matt LaFleur’s six-year coaching tenure… The Packers have 1,003 yards rushing this season. That’s their highest total through the first six games of a season since 1963, when they had 1,041… The Packers rank second in the NFL with 55 explosive plays and the Texans are third with 54. An explosive play is defined as a run of 12-plus yards or a pass of 16-plus yards. The Baltimore Ravens have a league-high 59… The Packers have a league-high 17 takeaways… Love’s 12 TD passes put him in a tie for second place in the league, behind the 15 of Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield. Love ranks that high despite missing two games with a knee injury… McKinney has a league-leading five interceptions… Packers WR Romeo Doubs had his first two touchdown catches of the season against Arizona after serving a one-game suspension. The suspension came after he missed two practices leading up to Green Bay’s 24-19 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

Associated Press

Arizona (2-3) at Green Bay (3-2)

DAY/TIME/TV: Sunday, 12:00 p.m. CDT, FOX

SERIES RECORD: Packers lead 46-26-4

LAST MEETING: Packers beat Cardinals 24-21 in Arizona on Oct. 28, 2021

LAST WEEK: Cardinals won 24-23 at San Francisco; Packers won 24-29 on the road over Los Angeles Rams

CARDINALS OFFENSE: overall (14), rush (4), pass (T-24), scoring (12)

PACKERS OFFENSE: overall (T-4), rush (3), pass (10), scoring (8)

CARDINALS DEFENSE: overall (25), rush (28), pass (18), scoring (27)

PACKERS DEFENSE: overall (21), rush (11), pass (23), scoring (14)

TURNOVER DIFFERENTIAL: Cardinals plus-1; Packers plus-7

CARDINALS PLAYER TO WATCH:

WR Michael Wilson caught five passes for a team-high 78 yards in last weekend’s win over the 49ers. The second-year player out of Stanford doesn’t get the same hype as rookie teammate Marvin Harrison Jr., but the more attention Harrison receives from opposing defenses, the more room Wilson has to operate. At 6-foot-2 and 213 pounds, he combines speed, strength and athleticism that are all excellent for a No. 2 option.

PACKERS PLAYER TO WATCH:

S Xavier McKinney has intercepted a pass in each of his first five games with the Packers. He actually has an interception in six straight games, if you include the pass he picked off while playing for the New York Giants in their 2023 season finale. The only other players since 1990 to have an interception in six straight games were Carolina’s Doug Evans (2001), Minnesota’s Brian Russell (2003) and Dallas’ Trevon Diggs (2021).

KEY MATCHUP:

Cardinals running game vs. Packers run defense. The Cardinals rushed for 169 yards in their upset of the 49ers, with James Conner gaining 86 yards on 19 carries and Kyler Murray running for 83 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts. Run defense has been one of the Packers’ biggest weaknesses for most of the past few years, though they’ve shown progress in that area so far this season. The Packers allowed 134 yards on 28 carries against the Rams, with Kyren Williams rushing for 102 yards on 22 attempts.

KEY INJURIES:

Cardinals OL Will Hernandez (knee) was put on injured reserve this week and is out for the season… Cardinals rookie DL Darius Robinson (calf) was activated from IR this week and the No. 27 overall pick could make his NFL debut… Cardinals starting right tackle Kelvin Beachum has been battling a sore hamstring for multiple weeks and didn’t practice on Wednesday… Packers CB Jaire Alexander (groin) has missed two games but was practicing on a limited basis this week… Packers WR Christian Watson (ankle) also was practicing on a limited basis this week after he didn’t play against the Rams… Packers DL Devonte Wyatt (ankle) didn’t play against the Rams and wasn’t practicing early this week… Packers OL Jordan Morgan (shoulder) has missed three straight games… Packers TE Luke Musgrave didn’t practice Thursday and isn’t expected to play Sunday.

SATURDAY INJURY REPORT:

ARIZONA: OUT: DL Darius Robinson (calf), WR Zay Jones (NIR/return from suspension). QUESTIONABLE: OL Kelvin Beachum (hamstring), OL Christian Jones (ankle), K Matt Prater (left knee), CB Garrett Williams (groin).

GREEN BAY: OUT: DL Devonte Wyatt (ankle). QUESTIONABLE: CB Jaire Alexander (groin), T Jordan Morgan (shoulder), WR Christian Watson (ankle), DL Arron Mosby (shoulder), T Rasheed Walker (knee).

SERIES NOTES:

The Packers’ 2021 victory in Arizona snapped the Cardinals’ three-game winning streak in this series, which included a 26-20 overtime triumph in a divisional playoff game on Jan. 16, 2016. In that 2021 game, Murray was 22 of 33 for 274 yards with two interceptions and Conner rushed for 22 yards and two touchdowns on five carries. The Packers got two touchdown completions from Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb, who both are no longer with the team. The previous time the Cardinals visited Lambeau Field, they won 20-17 on Dec. 2, 2018.

STATS AND STUFF:

Murray ran for a 50-yard TD for the Cardinals’ first TD in last week’s win over the 49ers. According to NFL NextGen Stats, he hit 21.27 mph on the run, which is the fastest speed recorded for a QB over the past eight seasons… The Cardinals have been called for just 19 penalties through five games, which is the fewest in the NFL… The Packers rank third in the NFL in rushing yards while the Cardinals are No. 4… Murray has thrown 101 TD passes, which ranks fifth in franchise history. He recently passed Kurt Warner on the team’s list… Cardinals S Budda Baker had a team-high 12 tackles vs. the 49ers. It was the 29th game of his career with 10 or more tackles… Cardinals DL Bilal Nichols will play his 100th career game on Sunday. He’s played four seasons with the Bears and two for the Raiders before coming to Arizona over the offseason… The Packers had 96-yard drives the past two weeks against Minnesota and the Rams. According to Elias Sports Bureau, it’s the first time in the past 45 seasons that the Packers had a drive of at least 95 yards in back-to-back weeks… Packers RB Josh Jacobs has 402 yards rushing to rank fourth in the NFL… The Packers’ plus-7 turnover margin puts them in a tie with Buffalo for the best in the league… Packers WR Jayden Reed has 414 yards receiving and 110 yards rushing. He’s the sixth player ever to have at least 400 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing in the first five games of a season. The others are Washington’s Wilbur Moore (1943), the New York Giants’ Frank Gifford (1959), Philadelphia’s Timmy Brown (1965), San Francisco’s Paul Hofer (1980) and San Francisco’s Roger Craig (1985)… Packers TE Tucker Kraft has three TD catches to match San Francisco’s George Kittle and Baltimore’s Isaiah Likely for the most among tight ends. Kraft’s 66-yard score against the Rams matched the third-longest touchdown catch by any Packers tight end in the Super Bowl era, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The only longer ones were a 78-yarder by Paul Coffman in 1979 and a 72-yarder from Tom Crabtree in 2012. Jackie Harris also had a 66-yarder in 1993.
