The Man. The Legend.

Our historical offering for today is this portrait of the man who started it all — Curly Lambeau. What might he think of today’s NFL? It had changed quite a bit even by the time he died unexpectedly in 1965.

Starting today’s video presentations is this clip from the brand new NFL Network show: NFL AM.

New Reading Material

New to the Packerville, U.S.A. archival bookshelves are these items. Above, the brand-new 2012 Green Bay Packers Media Guide has arrived. Filled with all of the stats and information you could ever want about your favorite team, we never miss one. Our collection goes back to 1965. Get yours at the Packers Pro Shop.

This brand new one proves that there can never be too many books about Packers history (at least for our tastes). As long as a book breaks some new ground and/or offers some photos we’ve never seen before, then they’re worth adding to the collection. It can be obtained through the Packers Pro Shop, or if you prefer a bit of a discount, check it out at Amazon. Below, the back cover of this edition.

No Practice? Back to 1961...

The first Sunday of Training Camp 2012 also meant no practice. The new CBA provides us less practices overall and less practices in full pads. So, with not much going on in Green Bay today, we wanted to share an issue of Newsweek for your nostalgic enjoyment. The October 30, 1961 issue features an illustration of the Packers’ Paul Hornung evading a Baltimore Colts defender. We now bring you this full article from the Lombardi era:

Can we interest anyone in a new Dodge Dart?

Or, for our more affluent readers, perhaps you’d prefer a Lincoln Continental.

And who says technology wasn’t top notch in those days? Imagine... push-button, multi-line telephones for business!

• Packers believe passing game has yet to peak

Tickets and More...

While we were in Green Bay for the Shareholders’ meeting the other day, we forgot to mention that our Gold Package season tickets arrived the same day. The day that the tickets make their appearance is always a welcome event in the life of a fortunate Packer fan. While we remain on the waiting list for the Green Package (the rest of the games), we watch the construction of 7,000 new seats and eye our place on the list (#2,570) with hopeful curiosity.

We’ve had a day that has kept us from the world of football and the internet, and it’s very late, so we don’t have a lot of news links tonight. Above, Mike McCarthy reacts to first padded practice

A Return with Willie

Today’s historical photo is a fine image of Hall of Famer Willie Wood returning either a punt or a kick-off at Lambeau Field in the Lombardi era. Why hasn’t anyone invented a time machine so we could experience something like this in person?

Now we’re in the modern era with Coach Mike McCarthy’s comments after practice on Friday. Unfortunately for the fans that were there, it rained in the morning and so the practice was held inside the Don Hutson Center and closed to the public.

As Camp Gets Started...

As Training Camp gets underway on Thursday morning, it’ll be the first time in three years that we’re not there for the first practice of the new season. Chalk that up to the scheduling of the Shareholders' Meeting on a Tuesday, and our scheduled visit to camp not being until August 4th-8th for various reasons. The photo seen above has words of wisdom for the 2012 Green Bay Packers that we hope they are aware of. This is a photo of the old stairway leading to the field that so many great Packer teams used.

2012 Shareholders Meeting

As promised, here is an update on today’s 2012 Packers Shareholders meeting. We arrived at Lambeau Field about 7:45 a.m. this morning, and she looked like this on a lightly overcast day.

Fellow shareholders make their way to the Lambeau Atrium gate.

The Atrium didn’t open until 8:00 a.m., and the lines were long. But once the doors opened, it took only a few minutes to clear the courtyard area.

Oh yeah.

People milling about in the Atrium before heading to the seats in the Lambeau bowl.

Under the Lambeau stands before the meeting.

Our first look at the inside view of the 6,700 new seats being added in the South end zone.

New seats construction with the HD video board in the South end zone.

Waiting for the meeting. View of the new HD video board in the North end zone.

Lambeau Field awaits the football season. Coming soon, thankfully.

Close-up of the new HD video board in the South end zone. Apparently, the iPhone’s camera has a conflict with the HD video.

Hardcore: Sitting in your season ticket seats during the annual meeting. By his age, this must be a third-generation season ticket holder.

Around 12,500 NFL team owners sitting in Lambeau waiting for the meeting to begin (above and below)

The stars of the day are the men in suits, who entered the playing field to applause.

Team president Mark Murphy addresses the gathering.

GM Ted Thompson gives his football report.

Another look at the new construction where it meets the existing structure.

The meeting is over... time for a brat!

How great for the Packers... people lined up to give them loads and loads of cash!
