2019 Training Camp — Practice 10

The first of two joint practices with the visiting Houston Texans went off pretty much as imagined, including one large fight and several smaller skirmishes. This is what usually happens in NFL joint practices. It’s a good thing that it was not the Minnesota Vikings, as there would’ve been as many fights in the stands as on the field.

WR Trevor Davis (#11, left) and WR Darrius Shepherd (#10, right) both tried to catch and handle six footballs at one time without dropping any. Neither succeeded.

Packers defensive backs awaiting their next drill. While normally the offense wears white and the defense wears dark green, the Packers today were the “visitors” on their own field.

Here come the Houston Texans... they spent the first part of practice on Clark Hinkle Field, which is on the other side of the Don Hutson Center.

Texans on the field — it looked kind of strange, to tell the truth.

QB Aaron Rodgers (#12) in the last drill before scrimmaging with Houston.

Waukesha, Wisconsin, native and alumnus of the University of Wisconsin, J.J. Watt (#99), got a lot of cheers from the Green Bay fans.

The first scrimmaging ever with another team on Ray Nitschke Field commences.

The hitting was of game-caliber, but there was no tackling allowed.

There is a ballcarrier in there somewhere.

A Packers running back is stopped for no gain by the Houston defense.

QB Aaron Rodgers (#12) set to throw.

FB Danny Vitale (#45) makes a reception.

Though there was no tackling allowed, things happen when defensing passes.

A Houston player gets attention from a member of their training staff.

K Mason Crosby (#2) makes his first kick of 2019 Training Camp.

Action among the line of scrimmage personnel.

On the south end of the practice field, the Packers’ defense tangles with the Houston offense.

WR J’mon Moore (#82) makes a great catch along the near sideline.

WR Darrius Shepherd (#10) takes a tumble after making a reception.

QB Aaron Rodgers (#12) and Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

The Houston defensive front, minus J.J. Watt, who suffered a pulled muscle of some kind mid-practice.

And then the big fight happened. Texans’ S Lonnie Johnson made a big hit on TE Jace Sternberger (#87), so hard that his helmet flew off. Johnson then stood over Sternberger and flexed his muscles. Since this type of play is not allowed in practice, the Packers’ offensive players took off and joined the Texans in a big shouting and shoving match (above and below).

Coach Matt LaFleur was not happy with Texans’ Coach Bill O’Brien.

And then things got back to normal.

DE Montravius Adams (#90) gets some attention from the Packers’ training staff.

Another minor scuffle breaks out along the near sideline. That’s what happens when both teams are occupying the same real estate.

WR Jake Kumerow (#16) gets some attention on the pinky finger of his left hand.

K Mason Crosby (#2) kicking his first field goals of camp.

J.J. Watt pulled a muscle and will not participate in Tuesday’s practice or Thursday night’s first preseason game.

Tackling is not allowed? Right.

The Houston team huddles up at the end of practice.

Coach Matt LaFleur addressing his team as well.
