Gregg Looks Over His Troops
Packers head coach Forrest Gregg looks over his assembled warriors on the practice field in this undated photo from the mid-1980’s. The Hall of Fame offensive lineman came back to Green Bay in 1984 after coaching the Cincinnati Bengals, where he had led that team to a Super Bowl berth after the 1981 season (they lost to San Francisco). He would stay at the helm in Titletown for four seasons until he left to resurrect the Southern Methodist University (his alma mater’s) football program after they had received the NCAA “death penalty” for “serious institutional infractions.” In 2010, he released a book of his gridiron memories, called “Winning In The Trenches: A Life in Football,” which is in the Packerville, U.S.A. library.
