The Cowboys Come to Town
Today we head back to 1960 to see the visiting Dallas Cowboys playing our Packers in City Stadium on November 13th of that year. This is the last season of the yellow helmets with no “G” logo on them, and it is Lombardi’s second season in Green Bay. We can clearly pick out Forrest Gregg (#75) and Jim Ringo (#51) — and if our research is correct, that’s fullback Larry Hickman (#37) carrying the ball into the defensive front of the Cowboys. He had eight yards on three carries that day as the Packers trounced the ’Pokes 41-7. Hickman’s tenure would last through 1960, the only year he was with the team. This 1960 team, of course, wound up going all the way to the N.F.L. title match, where they lost 17-13 to Philadelphia.
