2017 Training Camp • Practice 3

As we said in the last update, some technical problems have prevented us from posting images of 2017 Green Bay Packers Training Camp. But, now we’re up and running and getting caught up. This installment is from the first day of practice — Thursday, July 27th. If you want a good seat, you need to get there early for the 8:15 a.m. sessions. How early? Let's just say that the sun has not cracked the horizon until we’ve been in line a while.

There it is... rising over the hotel we used to stay in for Training Camp before we secured a more permanent year-round home for the Packerville, U.S.A. World Headquarters.

The Packers’ Training Camp staff is also there early, and here we see them having their morning meeting.

Decorations to get everyone in the festive “football season is here!” mood.

There are plenty of folks in line before they open the gates 90 minutes prior to the scheduled beginning of practice.

The Packers produce a free Training Camp Guide to be distributed to anyone who wants a copy.

A panoramic view of the practice fields before anything is going on.

The stands are pretty much full long before practice begins.

We’ve never seen this before... some guys going over the field with a metal detector.

The players start to arrive a half-hour or more before practice, either walking or on kids’ bicycles.

Players start to warm up on their own along the far sideline, doing their own stretching.

Practice “starts” with some special teams work before practice actually begins. Does that make sense?

Even the small grandstands along the north end of the practice fields are full before everything starts.

LB Clay Matthews and DE Dean Lowry doing their stretches along with the rest of the defense.

The defense working against the defense, #2.

Your 2017 top draft pick, CB Kevin King, who actually was the first pick of the NFL Draft’s second round.

FS Josh Jones (#27), the second player the Packers chose in 2017’s second round.

While the defense had been working outside, the offense begins practice inside the Don Hutson Center for the first half-hour or so.

Our first glimpse of QB Aaron Rodgers for the 2017 season.

The offensive linemen work on their position drills.

The quarterbacks working alone on the south end of the practice field.

More special teams work, with both defensive and offensive players together.

The players wearing the red hats on their helmets signify the opponent for later film study.

Running backs and tight ends working together.

Team tackling drills, split up by position groups.

WR Jordy Nelson (#87) hones his footwork with the other receivers.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy making notes that may become unwelcome words to some unsuspecting players. Or maybe coaches.

The ball security drill features a ball carrier running through a gauntlet of players trying to strip the ball from his arms.

The offensive linemen beating on each other.

A more overall view of the middle portion of Ray Nitschke Field from the grandstands.

Many wide receivers will be pared down to maybe six or seven. Who will break out and become a surprise this preseason?

New free agent TE Marcellus Bennett works on his blocking against the offensive linemen.

2017 sixth-round draft pick C Kofi Amichia in his first NFL Training Camp practice.

A view of Ray Nitschke Field’s south end.

Fourth-string QB Taysom Hill gets off a pass.

The rookie RB’s get some more words of wisdom from the coach.

RB Ty Montgomery (#88) being chased by LB Joe Thomas (#48).

Tight Ends Coach Brian Angelichio talks with three of his five position players.

QB Brett Hundley gets some work in the scrimmage portion of practice.

FUMBLE!!

The offensive huddle plots their next move.

WR Trevor Davis (#11) reaches for a pass he would not catch, while being fouled by FS Damarious Randall (#23).

An unidentified receiver is covered by FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (#21) and CB Ladarius Gunter (#36).

WR Geronimo Allison cannot catch this overthrown pass, despite having badly beaten CB Ladarius Gunter (#36).

QB Joe Callahan (#6) gets way from the pass rush and looks for a receiver.

The players take a “T.V. Timeout,” which the Packers schedule regularly throughout practice to get the players accustomed to the pace of a game.

The other TE acquisition this year is Lance Kendricks (#84), who was last with the Los Angeles Rams.

This is also new this year: a coach throwing tennis balls against the Don Hutson Center wall, while FS Morgan Burnett (#42), WR Davante Adams (#17), FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (#21), and WR Jordy Nelson (#87) take turns grabbing the bouncing balls.

The “Voice of Training Camp,” Matt Klein (the team’s Football Administration Coordinator).

An unidentified RB is stopped by LB Blake Martinez (#50).

Rookie RB Jamaal Williams (#30), a 2017 fourth-round draft pick, breaks into the open on a downfield jaunt.

WR Davante Adams (#17) makes a great catch despite the coverage of CB Ladarius Gunter (#36).

RB Ty Montgomery (#88) runs to daylight on the outside edge of his blocking.

DE Dean Lowry (#94) has his eyes on getting to QB Aaron Rodgers during scrimmaging.

The team gathers around Mike McCarthy at the end of practice.

The linebackers work on catching balls from the Jugs Machine.

LB Clay Matthews (#52) grabs a quick ball from the machine.

The quarterbacks stretch out following practice.

The defensive secondary also took turns on the Jugs Machine, and we see them huddling to end the session before heading back to the locker room.
