The Lombardi Psyche

Today’s post brings you an article from the October 1969 issue of “Quarterback” magazine. In the Fall of ’69, Vince Lombardi had left Green Bay for the Washington Redskins, where he was offered a piece of ownership — something he could not have with the Packers. After retiring from his legendary successful coaching career, Lombardi spent a miserable year as General Manager of the club, and knew he had made a mistake giving up his spot on the sideline. This article sets the stage for his time in the nation’s capitol as the season was underway. It would be his last season ever, as he died in September 1970.

Here is the cover of this publication, featuring New York Jets’ QB Joe Namath, who led his team to their only championship ever in Super Bowl III.
