More From October ’72

As the offseason proceeds into the doldrums of winter, we’re sharing some miscellaneous 1972 game program material. This is from the October 8, 1972 home game against the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. Above, a featured portrait of G Bill Lueck, who played for the Packers from 1968-74. That means he was drafted by Vince Lombardi out of the University of Arizona, with the 26th pick in the first round. After leaving Green Bay, he spent one season (1975) with the Philadelphia Eagles.

An ad for Guido’s Supper Club in Green Bay, in fact just a block or so from the stadium. “Gross Street” back then is now “Holmgren Way.” The address puts it at the location of the current Anduzzi’s Sports Club (see below). Personally, we’ve never been in the establishment, but we used to park for games on the street out front, and would tailgate right there along the curb. Both parking and tailgating there were outlawed not long after the team’s success in Super Bowl XXXI.

Here are three pages of previous game action from the 20-14 loss to the Oakland Raiders at Lambeau Field on September 24, 1972 (your Packerville, U.S.A. editor’s tenth birthday!). Check out the name labels on some of the players’ jerseys — could the letters be more spaced out?

If you had filled this entry blank out and won this contest, you would’ve had a fine trip to Los Angeles to see the undefeated Miami Dolphins defeat the Washington Redskins, 14-7.
