Treasures from Green Bay

While in Green Bay for the game on Sunday, we picked up some more things for the Packerville, U.S.A. archives. On our Training Camp visit, the official yearbooks weren’t done yet because of the lockout, so we were able to obtain our copy (above) at the Packers Pro Shop before the game.

Also not available in August, but ready now were the 2011 Media Guides.

This is a new official publication of the Packers commemorating their Super Bowl XLV victory.

The official game program from Sunday’s Packers-Broncos contest.

This book — another on Vince Lombardi — focuses on the impact he had on players and people in the short term.

This publication wasn’t purchased in Green Bay, but rather on eBay. In all of our searches, online was the only place to find a copy.

Now, a bit more on Sunday’s security situation at Lambeau Field. The Packers and all involved have expressed their apologies, so we’ll just say that it was a poorly executed affair and leave it at that. The only way to make it work with the “hand wanding” airport-style weapons searches will be to increase the number of gates or greatly expand the search areas outside of the stadium. Here are four articles that cover the issue:

• Delay of game irks thousands of fans at Lambeau
• New security measure slows crowd entering Lambeau
• Packers security say they will get it right
• Upon further review, Packers will revisit security

It was the first time in 90 Packers games (in both Milwaukee and Green Bay) that we missed the kick-off and half of the First Quarter. Apparently, we’ll have to get in line and try to enter the stadium two hours before the game starts to make it by game time. As always, a few knuckleheads ruin everything for everybody else.
